Name: Lee Northern

Background:

Hailing originally from west London and educated in East Essex, Lee has had a varied career of over 30 years in education. He has worked in a diverse range of settings, including schools in Portsmouth, Milton Keynes, Cumbria and Cornwall. Lee has also been a school improvement officer for Cumbria and Cornwall local authorities. He is currently the Director of Strategy for a large multi-academy Trust of 28 primary and secondary schools. 

Wider Experience:

Prior to this, Lee was one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) for Ofsted for nearly nine years and played a lead role in developing the 2015 and 2019 Ofsted inspection frameworks. He has a detailed understanding of inspection methodology and school evaluation, and has over fifteen years’ inspection experience. Lee has an in-depth understanding of curriculum and the contribution of research from cognitive science to pupils’ learning. 

Why a Trustee:

Living currently in North Cornwall, Lee is enthusiastic about his role as a trustee for NCLT. He is keen to bring his knowledge and experience to complement the breadth of expertise currently in the trust and on the trust board.
