Ian is a retired Director of Education and Children's Services
He started out as a teacher in London before becoming a Primary Headteacher in Lambeth. He moved into the Inner London Education Authority inspectorate and then to Hampshire's Education Inspectorate where he became one of the very first cohort of Ofsted inspectors. When Southampton became a unitary authority he was appointed as their Head of School Improvement before becoming Director of Education (and Leisure) in 2001. He left Southampton in 2005 and worked for 5 years as a freelance, during which time he served as interim Director of Children's Service on the Isle of Wight and with Slough (twice) and Portsmouth.
In 2011 he moved to Cornwall and lives close to Camelford. He currently spends much of his time as chairman of Endelienta, a charity focused on developing St Endellion as a year-round venue for the arts. He also serves as a director at Camelford Leisure Centre.
